A free Discord account can upload 10 MB per file; Nitro Basic raises it to 50 MB and Nitro to 500 MB. Printing communities live on Discord, and most STLs are over 10 MB. This page opens the reducer at 9 MB so the file posts from any account.

Why the file is over it

The files shared in 3D printing servers are prototypes and remixes straight out of the modeller, and 10 MB is only about 210,000 triangles. Even a simple bracket exported from Fusion 360 at fine mesh settings can exceed that. For a file that exists to get feedback or a test print, the extra resolution is dead weight.

How to get under it

  1. 1Drop the STL below. The target is preset to 9 MB.
  2. 2Press Reduce. On CAD parts the triangles come out of flat faces first, so the part looks the same in the viewer.
  3. 3If the model is a detailed sculpt and 9 MB looks too coarse on the result card, post the reduced file for preview and a Drive link for the full one.
  4. 4Download and drag it into the channel.

What to expect

A 42 MB scan (880,000 triangles) to 9 MB keeps 188,000: recognisable and printable at 0.2 mm, softened on fine texture. A 30 MB Fusion 360 export usually reaches 9 MB with no visible change, because it was almost entirely flat-face triangles.

Other ways

Nitro Basic covers 50 MB; a Google Drive link covers anything. Splitting a model into parts keeps each under 10 MB but makes the receiver reassemble it.

Questions

Is the limit 10 or 25 MB?

Discord has been rolling out a higher free limit; many accounts still see 10 MB. Under 9 MB works everywhere.

Can I share a 3MF instead?

Yes, and 3MF is 20 to 40 percent smaller than STL for the same mesh. Reduce first if the 3MF is still over the cap.

Will a 9 MB file print well?

For parts up to hand size, yes. For a large detailed figure, treat the 9 MB file as the preview and send the full file another way.
