3MF Repair

Upload a 3MF whose model your slicer flags as broken. The mesh is repaired without moving a vertex; plates, settings, thumbnails and colours come back exactly as they were.

Invalid, duplicate and stray triangles are removed, faces are turned to agree with their shell, inside-out shells are turned outward and every hole up to 500 edges around is closed. No vertex is moved, and a file with nothing to fix comes back unchanged.

About

Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer and OrcaSlicer all warn about the same things when a model in a 3MF is broken: non-manifold edges, open edges, flipped or duplicate faces. Their built-in fixes run again each time the file is loaded, each slicer in its own way, and exporting the mesh to a repair tool and back means rebuilding the project. This tool fixes the triangles inside the 3MF and gives you the same project back.

The package stays as it was apart from the mesh: plates, print and filament settings, thumbnails, object positions, units and every other file inside are copied byte for byte, and only the triangle counts Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer keep in their metadata are updated. Per-triangle colours and materials stay on every triangle that is kept, so a repaired multi-colour print still prints in the colours you assigned. Painting survives the repair: triangles the slicer subdivided for multi-material, support or seam painting are kept exactly as they were, and a triangle that closes a hole takes the colour and material of the triangle next to it, but never copies its subdivided paint.

The repair runs on a native C++ engine on our server. Invalid, zero-area and duplicate triangles are removed; of two copies with opposite winding, the one the surrounding surface supports is kept. On an edge shared by three or more faces, only the extra faces hanging off it are removed, never part of a closed surface. Faces are turned to agree with their neighbours, inside-out closed shells are turned outward while hollow parts keep their cavity, and holes with rims of up to 500 edges are closed by ear cutting that never cuts through the surface. No vertex is moved, so a functional part keeps its exact dimensions.

The report, measured on the repaired file, shows holes found and closed and open edges, triangles and watertightness before and after, so you know whether the slicer warning should be gone. Open sheets, stray single triangles and openings over 500 edges are left open, and a 3MF with nothing to fix comes back byte for byte identical. Repair is free, accepts files up to 300 MB and deletes them within 15 minutes of your download, at most 120 minutes otherwise. If the 3MF is also too big to upload, run it through the 3MF File Compressor next.

How it works

  1. 1Drop the .3mf project or model (up to 300 MB) on the upload area.
  2. 2Start the repair; no settings are needed.
  3. 3Check the report: holes closed, open edges before and after, watertight or not.
  4. 4Download the repaired .3mf and reopen it in your slicer.

FAQ

›Will my plates and settings survive the repair?
Yes. Only the mesh parts change, plus the triangle counts in Bambu and Orca metadata; plates, print and filament settings, thumbnails, transforms, units and every other file in the package are copied byte for byte.
›Bambu Studio says 'non-manifold edges'. Will this clear it?
Often. The extra faces that make an edge non-manifold are removed, inside-out shells are turned outward and holes are closed. Closed surfaces are never cut into, so the report's open-edge and watertight counts before and after show whether anything is left for the slicer to flag.
›Does it move or smooth my model?
No. No vertex is moved and nothing is smoothed or remeshed. Broken and stray triangles are removed and holes are closed with new triangles across the existing rim, so dimensions stay exact.
›What about colours, materials and painted areas?
Colours and materials stay on every kept triangle, and the triangles that close a hole take those of their neighbour. Painting subdivided by the slicer for multi-material, supports or seams is kept exactly and never copied onto the new triangles.
›Which holes are closed?
Every hole whose rim is up to and including 500 edges long. Bigger openings, such as a model with no base, open sheets and stray single triangles are left open, because closing them would invent geometry.
›Why not just let the slicer fix it?
You can, but then the model is repaired again every time the file is loaded, in each slicer its own way. Repairing once here gives you a clean 3MF that every slicer reads the same, plus a report measured on that file.
›Is it free, and is my file kept?
Repair is free, and a project with nothing to fix comes back unchanged. Files up to 300 MB are accepted and deleted within 15 minutes of your download, at most 120 minutes if you never download.
